TORONTO (September 11, 2014) - Two members of the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men’s football team find themselves ranked among the Top 20 CFL prospects for the 2015 draft in May as the league announced its September Scouting Bureau rankings on Thursday.
“I’m excited, but not surprised to see both Chris and Ese’s names posted by the CFL,” commented Laurier head coach MICHAEL FAULDS on the rankings. “Both of them have worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the field. Nothing has been handed to them; they have worked for and earned all of their accomplishments. They really put themselves on the map, by having great performances at the East West Bowl earlier this year.”
Ackie, a 6-2 defensive back out of Preston HS, has been a staple of the Hawks defence since he joined Laurier back in 2011. Dressing for every game since that season, he has recorded 88 career tackles, four sacks and seven knockdowns during his time with the purple and gold. Through two games this season, he has 8.5 total tackles which is sixth best on the team.
As for Mrabure-Ajufo, he’s followed a similar path to Ackie since coming to Laurier four years ago. The 6-4 defensive lineman has played in 21 career games recording 42.5 tackles and five sacks. This season, the Our Lady of Mount Carmel SS grad has three tackles and two sacks through the Hawks first two contests.
“I expect them both to continue to have great seasons, get invited to the CFL combine in the spring and next year at this time we will be watching them play in the CFL,” added Faulds.
Ackie, Mrabure-Ajufo and the rest of their teammates will be in action this Saturday when they host the Waterloo Warriors in their home opener at University Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. For tickets, visit tickets.laurierathletics.com.
