Athletics announces new GOLF leadership team
WATERLOO, Ont. (August 14, 2014) - The Wilfrid Laurier department of athletics and recreation is excited to announce a new leadership team for the Golden Hawk golf program. 

Starting this fall, JEFF COLLEY will serve as the team's new head coach and will handle the day-to-day operations of the team while Mike Turner, Mike Skimson and Mike Roberts will serve as teaching consultants working directly with the team's student-athletes. The four individuals bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the golf program and are all very well established in the Ontario and Kitchener-Waterloo golf communities.

"Our athletes have access to one of the best golf courses in the area (Grey Silo) to play and practice at because of our strong partnership with GolfNorth Properties, and now, with the addition of Jeff and the three Mikes, they will have access to some of the very best coaching in the province," commented Wally Gabler, Laurier's coordinator of interuniversity sport.

JEFF COLLEY has been involved with the Laurier golf program for the past seven years. Jeff was selected at the Laurier Golf team Rookie of the Year and played for the Hawks for three years during his time as an undergraduate student. During the past three years Jeff has been involved with the team as an Assistant coach. Jeff also worked in the golf industry at Grey Silo and has caddied on the LPGA's developmental tour (Symetra Tour). Jeff graduated from Laurier with a degree in Geography and is presently a secondary school teacher for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board.

Mike Turner is the vice-president, golf operations and business development for GolfNorth Properties. Mike has an extensive background in the golf industry and prior to his role with GolfNorth served as the head professional at Grey Silo Golf Course and the director of golf at Whistle Bear Golf Club. Mike attended Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama on a golf scholarship and graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

Mike Skimson is the head teaching professional at the Whistle Bear Golf Performance Center in Cambridge. Mike is a PGA of Canada class 'A' golf professional and is responsible for overseeing the entire instructional and fitting staff and the winter school instruction at Whistle Bear. He is the coach for the Whistle Bear Junior Performance Boys Advanced Competitor Team as well as the tournament director for the Maple Leaf Junior Tour here in Ontario. Mike is also the tournament director for the Ian Leggatt-GolfNorth Junior Tour. Mike is a graduate of the Humber College Professional Golf Management Program.

Mike Roberts has worked in various capacities at several golf clubs in the region for over 15 years, most recently serving as the director of golf operations at Grey Silo. He attended Wichita State University where he graduated as an academic All-American. Along with winning the Kansas State Amateur, he was named to Ontario's Willingdon Cup team.  Mike is currently employed as a financial ddvisor and continues to be active in numerous amateur golf tournaments.
