WATERLOO, Ont. (April 25, 2014) - On Thursday night, the Wilfrid Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted the 15th annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner, presented by Sun Life Financial, at the Waterloo Inn.
The event, which was hosted by 2005 Vanier Cup Champion receiver Andy Baechler, raised nearly $50,000 which will directly benefit the Golden Hawks football program.
Highlighting the evening was a video recap of the 2013 season and video profile features on players provided by Lot59 Productions, a guest speech from a member of Laurier's 1991 Vanier Cup winning team and member of the Golden Hawk Hall of Fame Fred Grossman as well as head coach MICHAEL FAULDS
' State of the Program address.
In his speech, Faulds looked back on his first year as bench boss for the Golden Hawks and looked ahead to what the 2014 season holds for his squad.
The Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner is a fundraising initiative of the Laurier Golden Hawk Football program. To date, the event has raised over $850,000 for the Golden Hawk football program. The funds are directed into enhancements and support, such as equipment, academic assistance, coaching support and facilities.
Laurier will open their 2014 season on the road for the sixth consecutive season when they travel to Toronto to take on the Varsity Blues on Labour Day Monday, September 1. The Hawks will play their home opener two weeks later when the face the Waterloo Warriors in the Battle of Waterloo on Saturday, September 13.
