WATERLOO, Ont. (January 13, 2014) - Women's basketball guard Laura Doyle of Guelph, Ont., and men's basketball guard Will Coulthard of Oakville, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 12, 2014.
Doyle came up big for the No. 9 Golden Hawks this past weekend. In a critical OUA West showdown with the Western Mustangs, the fourth year kinesiology and physical education major scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, including three three-pointers, as Laurier edged the Mustangs 74-73. The win moved the Hawks into a tie for second place in the division with Western at 10-2. Doyle also had 10 points and five rebounds in Laurier's 73-44 loss earlier in the week against the No. 2 Windsor Lancers.
This is the second time this season, and third time in her career, that Doyle has earned Female Athlete of the Week honours.
Coulthard put together his best weekend of the season for the Golden Hawks in a pair of games against No. 10 Windsor and Western. In Wednesday's loss to the Lancers, Coulthard had a season-high 26 points to go along with five rebounds in six assists as he stepped up in the absence of All-Canadian guard Max Allin. Coulthard wrapped up the weekend with a 22 point, three rebound performance in Laurier's loss to Western.
Coulthard takes home Male Athlete of the Week honours for the second time in his career.
