WATERLOO, Ont. (January 6, 2014) - Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's baseball coach SCOTT BALLANTYNE
was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential Canadians in Baseball over holidays in an annual list produced by Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun.
Coming in at No. 100, Ballantyne was the only individual on the list recognized specifically for his work in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) baseball. He was honoured for helping the Hawks bounce back from a tough 2012 season and capture the OUA Championship in 2013, the first in program history, after posting a team-best 25 wins.
"This is a huge honour for me," commented Ballantyne on the recognition. "I am thrilled and humbled to be on the list, especially given that the rest of the people on the list work full time in baseball and I am a part-time coach. This is an honour that I definitely share with all of the student-athletes on my team."
Elliott's annual list also included many prominent members of Canada's only Major League Baseball franchise, the Toronto Blue Jays, as well as numerous media members and Canadian athletes.
