WATERLOO, Ont. (November 27, 2013) - The No. 10 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team traveled across town Wednesday night to take on the Waterloo Warriors. The Hawks have had an excellent start to their season dropping only a single game so far and they would continue their winning ways as they blew past the Warriors with a 65-41 win.

After a tight first quarter, the Hawks spent the second quarter opening up a comfortable gap on the scoreboard, giving themselves a 11-point lead heading into the half.

Laurier would maintain their advantage through the third quarter and put the game out of reach in the fourth, outscoring the Warriors 24-13 to take home the victory.

Playing strong for the purple and gold was Alexandra Spadaro of Grimsby, Ont., who earned a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, a career first for her. Leading the Hawks in scoring was SARAH DILLON of Welland, Ont., who put up 13 points.

Showing her skills as a playmaker was Toronto, native Lee Anna Osei who had six assists in the game.

Waterloo was paced by Markham, Ont., native Kristen Osbourne who had 11 points and eight rebounds.

The win gives the Hawks a 8-1 record, a record that is matched only by the Western Mustangs in the OUA and keeps them tied for top-spot in the West division.

The Hawks will attempt to match their team record for best start to a season on Saturday when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons in their last game before the winter break. A win would give Laurier a 9-1 mark to start the season, a pace only set once before, by the 2004-05 Hawks. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the W. F. Mitchell Athletics Centre.
