Laurier: 76 Victoria: 77
VICTORIA (October 21, 2013) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team suffered a last-second defeat at the hands of the Victoria Vikes, falling 77-76 as they wrapped up their west coast road trip this past weekend.
Facing Victoria for the second time during their trip, the Hawks played a much better game than the opening game against the Vikes when they lost by 21 points on Friday night. However, the Hawks couldn't slow down reigning Canada West Rookie of the Year Jenna Bugiardini, who scored her team's final six points and finished the game with 28 points.
For Laurier, rookie SARAH DILLON
of Welland, Ont., paced the Hawks offensive effort as she finished the game with 13 points after shooting 60 percent from the field.
Alexandra Spadaro of Grimsby, Ont., and Bree Chaput
of Guelph, Ont., also finished in double figured with 11 and 10 points respectively.
The game against Victoria was the Hawks final non-conference game this season as they will now prepare for their conference opener on Friday, November 1. Laurier will host the OUA's newest entrant, the Algoma Thunderbirds, in their home opener at the Athletic Complex. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
