WATERLOO, Ont. (October 11, 2013) - Despite missing three key pieces of their lineup, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's basketball team hung tough with a strong UFV Cascades lineup in a 61-57 loss on Thursday night at the Athletic Complex.

With Whitney Ellenor of Pickering, Ont., Doreen Bonsu of Oakville, Ont., and Kimberley Yeldon of Ottawa, all out of the lineup with injuries, a young Hawks squad battled for 40 minutes and nearly pulled off the victory.

Leading the way for Laurier was rookie SARAH DILLON of Welland, Ont., who finished the game with 11 points and six rebounds. Another rookie, Alexandra Spadaro of Grimsby, Ont., also played well with nine points and four blocks while second year guard Kaitlyn Schenck of Kitchener, Ont., also had nine points.

The Cascades were paced by fifth year guard Aieisha Luyken of Mission, B.C., who had 13 points and four rebounds while Sarah Wierks of Chilliwack, B.C., had 12 points.

Up next for the Hawks, they will travel out West to Victoria, B.C., where they will take on the Victoria Vikes and the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack between Friday, October 18 and Sunday, October 20.
