WATERLOO, Ont. (September 18, 2013) - Welcome to the third edition of This Week in Laurier Athletics for the 2013-14 season. In this week's edition, we look ahead to Saturday's football showdown with Western and examine a busy weekend for other Laurier teams both home and away.
FEATURED GAME: Football vs Western (Saturday, Sept. 21- 1 p.m.)
TV: RogersTV Waterloo Region (Tape Delay)
Webcast: Hawk TV
The Golden Hawks will face one of their fiercest rivals, the Western Mustangs, on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium in a game that is always circled by Hawks' fans on the OUA calendar each season.
This rivalry has been spawned out of years of steady competition between the two programs. Laurier has played no other team in the country as often as they have played Western and this weekend's game will mark the 65th meeting all-time between the two schools.
History has not been on the side of the Hawks in recent years as Laurier has lost the last seven meetings between the two programs. However, head coach MICHAEL FAULDS
will be looking to turn around that run of losses in his first meeting against the team he played five seasons for.
The purple and gold enter their second home game of the season coming off a big 41-10 victory over Waterloo last week. In that contest, the Hawks were led by running back Dillon Campbell
of Whitby, Ont., who had 180 yards and two touchdowns in the game, as well as strong play on defence and special teams.
Ticket's for Saturday's game can be purchased by visiting tickets.laurierathletics.com
and fans are reminded to come out early in order to enjoy discounted food and drink in the West end zone tailgate.
