UPDATE: Fit Centre to partially open Sept 17

WATERLOO, Ont. (September 16, 2013) -  Wilfrid Laurier Athletics and Recreation is happy to announce that on Tuesday, September 17th, effective 5 p.m., partial occupancy will be obtained to the first floor of the Fitness Centre.

With substantial progress being made on the expansion renovation, all students and members will have access to equipment within that designated space.

As of Tuesday, September 17th, equipment will be in the following areas:

Cardio & Circuit Equipment: First floor of the Fitness Centre

Strength Equipment & Free Weights: Squash Court #1, until further space can be provided in the Fitness Centre.

Cycles: Cyclefit room in Fitness Centre.  Please note that trial cyclefit classes will begin as soon as possible (check www. for updates)

Squash Court #2: Available for squash bookings starting on September 18th.

Programming in intramurals, wellness, aquatics and dance will continue as scheduled while extended open gym times at both the Athletic Complex and University Stadium will continue to be offered for the remainder of the academic year.

Access to the building will continue to be from the East exterior King St. doors which are located near the King St. bus stop location. As well, the majority of Customer Service operations will be at the lower level Hawk Desk (formerly the equipment desk).

The renovation of the Fitness Centre, which began late in August of 2012, will see the building more than double in square footage upon completion. Upon opening, it will be an industry leader in providing a full, inclusive experience for all types of users. The space will feature approximately $800,000 worth of new equipment as well as a dramatic increase in the space for cardio, free weights, strength training and stretching zones while also adding a TRX training station and two studios.  Please check for regular updates.
