Three Hawks to play in OUA All-Star game

HAMILTON, Ont. (April 29, 2013) - The best baseball players in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) will be on display at the Rogers Centre on Sunday, May 5 as the 2012 champion Toronto Varsity Blues take on the OUA all-stars in the seventh annual OUA Baseball All-Star Showcase.

The game will take place following the Toronto Blue Jays game against the Seattle Mariners, which begins at 1:07 p.m. Fans can enter Rogers Centre through Gate 8 free of charge following the Blue Jays game (approximately 5:00 p.m.), or purchase tickets to both by visiting bluejays.com.

The Varsity Blues claimed their second straight OUA championship with a victory over the Brock Badgers this past October.  The Blues squeaked into the playoffs with an 11-10 regular season record, before knocking off the top-seeded Brock Badgers and second-seeded Guelph Gyphons to reach the finals.

Toronto had outstanding pitching in 2012, led by veterans Marek Deska, Drew Taylor, Ryan Donnelly and OUA championship MVP Andy Orfanakos.

The OUA all-star team will be comprised of student-athletes from the other seven schools that complete on the OUA circuit, including Wilfrid Laurier, Western, Brock, Guelph, McMaster, Queen's and Waterloo. OUA pitcher of the year, Adam Paish of the Western Mustangs, will get the start for the all-star team, which also includes 2012 hitter of the year Justin Interisano of the Guelph Gryphons and OUA rookie of the year Nolan Anderson of the Western Mustangs.

The 2013 game marks the seventh annual OUA All-Star Showcase.  In 2012, Toronto got off to a great start, scoring six runs in the first inning and defeated the all-star team 8-2.  The all-star team holds a 2-3-1 record with the inaugural game in 2007 ending in a tie.

The OUA All-Star Showcase is made possible with the help of Wilson, Pizza Pizza and the Blue Jays.
