WATERLOO, Ont. (January 7, 2013) - Women's basketball forward Doreen Bonsu of Oakville, Ont., and men's basketball guard William Coulthard of Oakville, Ont., have been named the Laurier Bookstore Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2013.
Bonsu led the Golden Hawks to a victory over McMaster as well as a near-upset of the No. 1 Windsor Lancers this past week. On Thursday again Windsor, the history major finished with 14 points and seven rebounds as the Hawks lost a hard-fought 68-60 game to the Lancers. In Saturdays 76-72 win over the Marauders, Bonsu once again led Laurier in scoring, finishing with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals.
This is the second time this season that Bonsu has earned Female Athlete of the Week honours.
Coulthard tied or set three Golden Hawks school records in Saturday's 93-84 setback to the McMaster Marauders. The geography major tied the record for points in a game with 39 and field goals made in a game with 14, both also held by Kale Harrison. He also set a new record for most field goal attempts with 35, breaking Harrison's record by 8 attempts. Coulthard also added 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists in Thursday's 93-73 loss to Windsor.
This is the first time in his career that Coulthard has been honoured as the Male Athlete of the Week.
