The Women's Athletic Association (WAA) is a place where females at Laurier can come to relieve stress, make new friends, learn new ways to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle and have fun! Not into sports? No problem! One of WAA's main focuses is to educate women of the many other ways to stay active during the busy school year. WAA is a safe and comfortable place for women to come together, socialize, and brainstorm the many activities and events WAA coordinates throughout the year.
Aside from having social events, WAA promotes and supports female athletics at Laurier by participating in cheer dates for different varsity teams, hosting Live Fit Days of free fitness classes, volunteering at the Outstanding Women of Laurier luncheon, decorating the annual Athletic Banquet, and assisting with the Dance Showcases.
Members of WAA will also have the opportunity to get involved with the Kitchener-Waterloo community, as we participate as a group in CIBCs Run for the Cure, run a Get Active program in elementary schools to educate young girls about healthy lifestyles and self-esteem, and also host general fundraisers for charitable organizations.
One of WAA's main goals is to build a strong relationship amongst members and the Laurier community; this is done through bi-weekly meetings and active outings like hot yoga, rock climbing, and swimming. Members outside of the WAA executive team are given plenty of opportunities to volunteer in any of our events throughout the year, giving them the chance to enhance their organizational, teamwork and leadership skills. Working with WAA will go on your Co-Curricular Record, and will contribute to your Kin Hours if you are in Kinesiology!
