WATERLOO, Ont. (July 20, 2012) - The fourth annual Wilfrid Laurier Baseball Alumni Golf tournament was held on Wednesday July 18th at Doon Valley Golf Course in Kitchener. The event was a huge success as 72 golfers took part and enjoyed the beautiful weather and a chance to support the men's baseball team.
The team of Pat Schooley, Dan Adair, Kevin Thurston and Matt Johnson shot 14 under par to take first place in the most well attended tournament in the four year history of the event. In addition to golf, the event was an opportunity for Head Coach SCOTT BALLANTYNE to introduce the 2012 recruiting class as six of the 13 recruits for 2012 were in attendance. 15 former members of the Golden Hawks took part in the event which bridges the past success of the program with the future.
The 2012 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks will kick off their training camp on August 18th as they look to build upon their 2011 season which saw the team win a record 21 games. The Golden Hawks will open up the regular season on Wednesday September 5th at Bechtel Park in Waterloo against the Guelph Gryphons.
