TORONTO (January 12, 2012) - One goal was the difference as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's hockey team (5-13-1) lost to York Lions (9-8-3) Thursday in a 1-0 game.

It was a low scoring game that was marked by a barrage of penalties with Laurier totaling 28 minutes and York totaling 24 minutes. However, even with all the man-advantage opportunities, both team,s power plays came up empty.

The lone goal in the game came midway into the second period off the stick of York's Bryan Weinberg of Thornhill, Ont., with assists from Jesse Messier of Keswick, Ont., and Matt Thomson of Kitchener, Ont.

Though not the outcome the Hawks had hoped for after coming off a weekend win against Brock, this was the second game in a row that Laurier was able to keep their goals against to one. In the eight games preceding their win against Brock, they let in at least three goals in each game. Ryan Daniels of Pickering, Ont., stood strong stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced in the game.

Earning the shutout for York was Andrew Perugini of King City, Ont. He faced 24 shots from the Hawks.

The Hawks will try to bounce back from this loss Saturday when they will be taking on the Waterloo Warriors (11-5-3) at Columbia Ice Field in Waterloo.
