Hawks open up nationals against Montreal
MONTREAL (November 10, 2011) - The No. 5 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's soccer team begin their quest for a national championship this afternoon as they take on the No. 1 Montreal Carabins at McGills Percival Molson Stadium.

Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. and fans can watch the game live online at SSN Canada.

One year after falling just short of their goal for a CIS banner, the Hawks are primed for another run at this years tournament. However, they must first get through the team that took over the No. 1 ranking from them in mid-October, the Montreal Carabins.

In what promises to be one of the games to watch at this tournament, the Hawks and the Carabins are meeting at the national championship for the second consecutive season. Last year, 2011 CIS Player of the Year Alyssa Lagonia of Kitchener, Ont., scored a pair of goals as the Laurier knocked off Montreal 2-0 in the semifinals.

The Hawks team that faced Montreal a year ago has changed little from that game. Laurier is still led by midfielders Lagonia and CIS All-Canadian Tania Pedron of Maple, Ont., along with defenders Sadie Anderson of Mississauga, Ont., and CIS All-Canadian Kelsey Tikka of Thunder Bay, Ont.

Offensively, Laurier Head Coach BARRY MACLEAN will look to forwards Krista Cellucci of Mississauga, Ont., and Emily Brown of Waterloo, Ont., to carry over their regular season success. Cellucci finished second in the OUA in goals for with 10 while Brown led all rookies with nine.

As they did last year, the Carabins enter the tournament as the RSEQ champions after they defeated Sherbrooke 3-1 in the championship game last weekend. In the regular season, Montreal finished the year as the only undefeated team in the country, posting a 12-2-0 record. The team was led by RSEQ Player of the Year Eva Thouvenot-Hebert who scored a CIS-best 18 goals.
