WATERLOO, Ont. (September 14, 2011) - The Department of Athletics and Recreation at Wilfrid Laurier University and GolfNorth are pleased to announce a partnership that will have the Golden Hawk golf program playing and practicing at Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo.
"We are pleased to establish this partnership with GolfNorth, which will assist in the development of a new women's golf program and provide support to our existing men's program," stated PETER BAXTER, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "This private-public partnership, with GolfNorth leading the way, will serve as a model for university sport to grow playing opportunities for student-athletes not only in golf but in other sports as well."
Laurier golf coach Jim Zwolak is excited about the move to Grey Silo and the commitment that GolfNorth has made to the Golden Hawks. "Partnering with GolfNorth is a great step to push golf development at WLU out of the incubation phase. We've been working hard the last couple years to grow our program to a point where athletes will now train year-round and really have the opportunity to be competitive provincially and nationally. To create a women's program from the ground up is also really exciting!"
"All of us here at GolfNorth are very excited to be affiliated with the Golden Hawk program. We believe in development programs and we are committed to helping wherever we can added Mike Turner, Vice President, Business Development of GolfNorth. This partnership makes sense. A great university paired up with a great golf facility in the same community. We look forward to working closely with Jim and the team going forward."
