WATERLOO, Ont. (July 18, 2011) - Peter Baxter
, Director of Athletics and Recreation, is pleased to announce that women's hockey head coach RICK OSBORNE
has signed a two year contract extension which will see him remain with the program through the 2013-14 season.
During his eight seasons at the helm of the program, Osborne has led the team to seven OUA championships and one CIS championship. A five-time OUA Coach of the Year, Osborne's record speaks for itself. He holds a 161-15-13 regular season mark over seven and a half years behind the bench with an additional 21-3 mark during the OUA playoffs.
Over the course of his tenure, Osborne has coached five athletes who have earned CIS All-Canadian status and 16 that have been named OUA All-Stars at least once in their career. He has also seen four of his athletes named OUA Most Valuable Player and one named the CIS Player of the Year.
"From day one, Rick has built Laurier women's hockey as a premier hockey program in Canada and North America," stated Baxter. "He is not only a coach but a builder of people. He has inspired his athletes to achieve the highest levels of success on the ice and in their chosen professions following their time at Laurier."
"Eight years and two graduating classes have brought amazing Golden Hawk memories and experiences," said Osborne when asked about his time at Laurier thus far. "Every time I receive a call from a Golden Hawk graduate telling me what is going on in their life, I realize that what we have been through as a team has bonded us for life. It has been an exciting journey to date and I look forward to continuing it."
Osborne and the Golden Hawks will open the 2011-12 season on October 8 when they travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs.
