Laurier: 61 CIS Regional Semifinal - UQAM: 51
REGINA - Wilfrid Laurier's women's basketball team defeated the UQAM Citadins 61-51 to advance to the CIS regional final against the host Regina Rams. The winner of that game will go to the CIS championship in Windsor.
"I thought we came out of the gate really strong and our defence was really good in the second quarter," said head coach PAUL FALCO
. "In the second half we got off our game, and we were tentative defensively. I was happy with the way we persevered when we closed the gap and we've taken the next step to get to Windsor."
The purple and gold got out to an early lead in the first quarter, beating the Citadins 16-11. Laurier turned on the defence in the second frame holding UQAM to just four points, while scoring 17 of their own. The Citadins adjusted at halftime and exploded for 26 in the third, while Laurier hit 18. In the final frame both squads scored 10 for the Golden Hawk victory.Christa Mancino

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) each scored 17 points for the purple and gold. Renata Adamczyk
(Greensville, Ont.) had a double-double with 10 rebounds and 12 points. Megan Grant
(Thunder Bay, Ont.) contributed 14 rebounds in the win.
The Citadins were led by Michelle Auger-Bellemare who had 12 points.
UQAM shot 27-percent from the floor while the Golden Hawks hit 36-percent of their shots.
The game against Regina on Saturday, March 12 will be played at 7 p.m. MST
