Laurier Earns Three Major OUA Awards
HAMILTON, Ont. - Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased to announce the 2010-11 west women's basketball major award winners and all-stars.

The Golden Hawks earned three of the six major awards and as well as an all-star and all-rookie award.

Receiving the rookie crown is Laurier's Felicia Mazerolle (Elliot Lake, Ont.). The 2011 Rookie of the Year contributed 163 points for the Golden Hawks this season. The sociology major earned herself a regular spot on the court for Laurier, playing in all 22 games. Mazerolle shone on both ends of the court adding 47 assists, 56 rebounds, and 50 steals to her first season tally and is a member of the All Rookie Team.

Two-time west defensive player of the year, Renata Adamczyk (Greensville, Ont.) of the Laurier Golden Hawks, is this season's West recipient of the Joy Bellinger Award, presented annually to a female student-athlete in recognition of outstanding service to the sport and to the advancement of university athletics. To go along with her 286 points and 141 rebounds, Adamczyk will graduate from Laurier this year with an Honours Degree in Kinesiology. A consistent B+ student, she also is the lead senior mentor of the Athlete Academic Success Program where she assists student-athletes in managing their academic demands. Adamczyk is also involved in the community as a volunteer coach with the KW Lightning and Dundas Dynamo, a volunteer with Ontario Basketball girls' tournaments, and a leader at Laurier summer camp. She is also a OUA first team all-star.

Laurier's PAUL FALCO is the 2011 OUA West Coach of the Year. This is Falco's first coach of the year nod and Laurier's first win since the 2002-03 season.  After exiting the playoffs in the first round last season, Falco led his Golden Hawks to a 15-7 record this year and an OUA bronze medal berth. A former member of the Laurentian Voyageurs, and assistant coach of the Laurier men's basketball team, Falco took the reins of the women's team in the summer of 2008.
