WATERLOO, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons Andrew Loverock of Elmvale, Ont. shutout the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-0 to take the first game of the best-of-three series. He turned aside all 24 shots for his first career goose egg.
Edward Gale (Keswick, Ont.) would get on the board for the Gryphons at 7:18 of the first period. The Hawks had a power play opportunity at the end of the frame but could not capitalize. They went 0-for-3 on the night.
Laurier would not fare much better in the second as Matt Lyall (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored his first of the playoffs. Kris Belan (Florence ,Ont.) recorded his fourth in the post-season on the power play to give the Gryphons a three goal lead after two.

decided to give Ryan Daniels
(Pickering, Ont.) a rest after making 25 saves on 28 shots. Replacing him was David Clement
of Oakville, Ont. He stopped all ten shots he faced in the third.
Unable to find much offensive pressure in the final period, Laurier lost 3-0. The Gryphons got the better of the Hawks in the regular season with a 2-1 record head-to-head.
The Golden Hawks will try to bounce back on Saturday night. Game two of the series is in Guelph at 7:30 p.m.
