Laurier: 4 Ontario Nationals: 2
WATERLOO, Ont.- The Laurier Golden Hawks defeated the Ontario Nationals Tuesday evening by a final score of 4-2. This is the seventh exhibition game the Hawks have played, bringing their exhibition record to 6-1.
At the plate designated hitter Steven Dunlop went 3 for 4 with two RBI, while catcher Adam Chong
walked twice and executed a flawless sacrifice bunt.
The Hawks, along with the other seven OUA baseball squads, have had their regular 18 game season shortened to 14 games. The condensed game schedule is felt most notably during the league playoff run – as both the semifinal and championship series will now be determined in a single game.
Head coach SCOTT BALLANTYNE
has added seven extra non-conference games in total, as well as the inaugural Laurier Invitational Tournament to ensure the Hawks get plenty of extra playing time.
For the regular season the Hawks sit at an even 2-2 going in to a tough weekend. The boys travel to Western Friday to take on the reigning OUA champion Mustangs – who beat out the Hawks in two straight games to clinch the title last season. They are currently 3-1 this year.
Saturday Laurier hosts the annual alumni game.
To round off the weekend, Sunday afternoon the Hawks host the 4-0 Brock Badgers. Brock is ambitious this season after missing the play offs for the first time in their program’s history last year. Game times are 1 and 3:00 pm at Bechtel Park.
