The Laurier Women's Softball Club got off to a stumbling start to the new season coming in as defending National Champions from '09 losing to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues by scores of 4-1 and 7-0. The Lady Hawks were able to recover the next day vs. the University of Guelph with a 6-5 win in the bottom of the 7th inning followed by a 7-1 thumping of the Gryphons.
Melissa Jeffrey's had a great weekend at the plate with two doubles and a triple as well as Jacqueline OQuinn who reached base in 9 of 14 at bats. This years squad is full of a talented incoming class with high hopes of coming together to capture their fourth medal in as many years.
This Friday the fastpitch club will host Student Night at Hillside Park in Waterloo (located on Marsland Ave.) against cross-town rival Waterloo at 6 and 8pm. Come support the Golden Hawks Softball Club and be the fan of the night or win some great prizes awarded throughout the night before the team heads to York and Queens on Saturday and Sunday.
