Two Hawks Heading to Egypt
TORONTO - Almost 70 Canadians are getting ready to travel to Alexandria, Egypt for Rescue 2010 to represent their country at the World Lifesaving Championships. Wilfrid Laurier's Associate Director, Recreation & Facilities PAT KITCHEN will be accompanying the team as the Lifesaving Society's National Sport Commissioner. Swimming varsity athlete Brittany Shaw will be part of the 12-member team.

"I'm pleased to attend this event to support our Canadian athletes, including Laurier's own Brittany Shaw," said PAT KITCHEN."As the volunteer sport commissioner of Canada I will be observing the ILS sport meetings and look forward to gaining new insights."

Rescue 2010 is hosted by the Egyptian Diving and Lifesaving Federation from October 2nd to 17th, 2010 on behalf of the International Life Saving Federation. To date, over 3,700 participants are registered for Rescue 2010 which includes:

• 5 World Lifesaving Championships: National Teams, Interclub Open, Masters, Surfboat, and IRB
• ILS Meetings: Board of Directors Commissions, Committees
• ILS Centennial Gala Dinner
• National Beach/Surf Lifesaving Championships for youngsters

The International Life Saving Federation is the world authority in the global effort to prevent drowning. ILS works with national life saving organisations to improve drowning prevention, water safety, water rescue, lifesaving, lifeguarding and lifesaving sport. ILS is a non-profit, nonpolitical, non-religious, worldwide lifesaving sport and humanitarian organization.

The Lifesaving Society – Canada’s lifeguarding expert – works to prevent drowning through its training programs, Water Smart® drowning prevention education, water incident research, aquatic safety management services and lifesaving sport. The Lifesaving Society represents Canada in the ILS. The Society is the Canadian governing body for lifesaving sport – a sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation.
