Curtis Darling and Jeff MacDougald join the Golden Hawks coaching staff.
WATERLOO, Ont. - Wilfrid Laurier's men's hockey program is pleased to announce their coaching staff for the 2010-2011 season. Assistant coaches Curtis Darling
and Jeff MacDougald
will be joining head coach GREG PUHALSKI
behind the bench.
Darling joins the Golden Hawks after pursuing a professional hockey career for the last four seasons. The 6-2 netminder played for the Reading Royals, Charlotte Checkers, Wheeling Nailers and Ontario Reign in the ECHL. He was also called up twice to play for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch and Manchester Monarchs. A Calgary native, Curtis also has WHL and CIS experience. Darling is already comfortable working with GREG PUHALSKI
, after spending a season and a half with him in Wheeling.
"I am pleased to have Curtis join our team. He has a strong character and believes in the Laurier philosophy," said Puhalski.
MacDougald joins the Hawks as a coach after a five year career with the purple and gold as a player. The former Sarnia Sting goalie played 79 career regular season games for Laurier posting a .907 save percentage.
"Jeff is joining our team after a fine Laurier career. He is pursuing a teacher's degree at Laurier and Jeff will enhance our program as a new coach," commented Puhalski.
In addition to the two new assistant coaches, two members of last year's staff will be returning.Chuck Stemmler
will be back for his fourth season as video coach for the Golden Hawks, while Chris Thom
returns for his fifth season with the men's hockey team.
"Chuck will be in his fourth year with our program and I look forward to working with him this year," said Puhalski. "Chris will be in charge of videotaping our games this season."
The men's hockey team finished the 2009-10 regular season in fourth place with a 17-7-4 record. In the first round of the playoffs Laurier lost to Guelph in three games.
