WATERLOO, Ont - Four Hawks hit double digits as Wilfrid Laurier avenged a 84-61 loss on Friday night with a 75-61 victory over the visiting Lakehead Thunderwolves.
The win puts Laurier in sixth place in the OUA West with a 5-7 record while Lakehead is tied for fourth spot after falling to 7-5.
“The biggest difference for us tonight was our defensive intensity and focus,” said head coach PAUL FALCO
. “We were able to follow our game plan and take away some of Lakehead’s strengths.”
Turnovers were the name of the game as the Golden Hawks scored 30 of their points off of the Thunderwolves 25 turnovers. Lakehead only scored seven points off Laurier’s 17.
The purple and gold took control of the game in the second quarter, when they put up 23 points and held the visitors to just 12. At the half, the Hawks led 42-33. After the break, Laurier picked up their defensive intensity and held the visitors to just 18 second-half points.
Lakehead shot 28 per cent from the floor in the contest as compared to Laurier’s 45 per cent.

(Port Colborne, Ont.) who had a 13 points night. Renata Adamczyk
(Greensville, Ont.) chipped in 13 while Mallory Kohlmeier
(Sarnia, Ont.) and Alena Luciani
(Oakville, Ont.) each had ten. On the glass Adamczyk led the way with seven boards. She also had a team high three steals.
For the T-Wolves Tasia McKenna (Timberlea, N.S.) picked up 15 points in 31 minutes played.
Next up for the Hawks will be the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, January, 20th at 6 p.m. Laurier will host them at the Athletic Complex.
