Women's Soccer earns Five OUA All-Stars
HAMILTON, Ont. - Wilfrid Laurier's women's soccer team earned four OUA West first team all-stars and one OUA West second team all-star as well as coach of the year after finishing the regular season with a 9-3-2 record.

Golden Hawk midfielders Heather Malizia (Burlington, Ont.), Alyssa Lagonia (Kitchener, Ont.) and Tania Pedron (Maple, Ont.) as well as striker Ali McKee (Bracebridge, Ont.) were named to the first team while team captain Sara Hopper (Thornhill, Ont.) was named to the second team. Head Coach BARRY MACLEAN picked up his second women's soccer coach of the year award.

Heather Malizia earned her second consecutive first team all-star award after scoring seven goals during the season with five of them being game winning.  She has been one of the leading offensive threats for the Hawks all season.

Alyssa Lagonia has been the creative force behind the team throughout the year. This is her second all-star award, after picking up her first in 2006. She missed the 2007 while playing for team Canada’s U-20 team. She is currently training with the women’s senior national team for the World Cup.

Tania Pedron has been a key component to this team’s midfield all season. She is equally important on attack and defence and brings a physical presence.  This is the third all-star award in the business majors’ career.

Ali McKee earned her first all-star award after scoring a team high nine goals during the season. She has a tireless work ethic and does an excellent job pressuring opponents and maintaining possession under pressure.

Sara Hopper picked up her fourth all-star award of her five year career at Laurier. The team captain and leader of the team has outstanding endurance and is very dangerous when getting into wide positions to cross.

Head coach BARRY MACLEAN picked up his second coach of the year award, with the first coming in 2006. MacLean coached the team to a 9-3-2 record and has a career record of 82-45-49 with a winning percentage of .611.

After a 2-1 victory over the Brock Badgers in the OUA quarter-final the Golden Hawks have advanced to the OUA semifinals where they will face the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, November 7th at 11:30 a.m. The winner of the game will advance to the OUA finals and qualifies for Nationals.
