The IndividualSohaib Ikram
won the 2009 Badger Cross Country Open title and in doing so became Laurier’s first individual meet champion of the year. He also led his team to an overall meet victory. His closest rival for the title turned out to be his twin brother Shoaib who he beat by just one second. This meet had runners from the University of Toronto, McMaster University, University of Waterloo, George Brown College, York University and Trent University. To win a title at this level is a big step for a university freshmen. With this success it is easy to forget that it is their rookie year. The Ikram brothers have been Laurier’s top finishers all season and will once again lead Laurier into battle next week at the OUA championships, which will provide them with a much greater challenge.
“We are very pleased with the progress the Ikram brothers are making. Each racing weekend Sohaib and Shoaib are bringing their lunch pail determination to the race. However, next week will prove an even bigger challenge,” said head coach PETER GRINBERGS
