Wilfrid Laurier Competitive Dance Team
Dance team places in top 3 at first event this year
On the weekend, the Wilfrid Laurier Competitive Dance Team participated in their first event of the season, Terpsichore Dance Celebrations University Dance Challenge. Competing against 17 other university teams from across the province, six of the teams seven routines received an average score of 92.00 (out of 100) or higher. The Competitive Dance Teams Hip Hop routine, Bottle Pop also won a special judges award for style, and the Tap routine Breaking Silence placed in the top 10 out of 42 small group (4-9 dancers) entries. Most notably, the Open Line, Gods Creatures, placed 2nd overall in the Large Group/Line division (10+ dancers) out of 36 entries.
This is the first time either Laurier campus has secured a top three placing at the University Dance Challenge in the large group/line division. The choreographer of Gods Creatures, Emily Battalia, was also honored with a choreography award for her creativity and innovation by the panel of judges.
The team will be competing again this upcoming Saturday at UOITs Bust a Move dance competition, and again the following Saturday afternoon at Rhythm Dance, at the Sanderson Centre in Brantford. If you are interested in attending, please feel free to contact JENNIFER O'Neill and she can give you the schedule for either or both events.
