WINDSOR – Cindy Eadie (Brantford, Ont.) picked up a shutout in her first regular season contest of the year as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks (16-0-0) defeated the Windsor Lancers (6-9-0-1) 1-0 in overtime at Windsor Arena.
Eadie saw only 19 shots on net through the contest while the play stayed primarily in the Lancer end. The 6’0 net minder and two time CIS all-Canadian joined up with the Hawk squad over the break and saw some time in net at the University of Manitoba exhibition tournament.
Windsor goalie Jamie Tessier was pummeled with 69 shots on net through the contest but it was rookie forward Caitlin Muirhead (Waterloo, Ont.) shot that got by her late in the overtime period.
Muirhead scored the game winner with three minutes and nine seconds left in the overtime period to pick up her first game winning goal of the season.
"Muirhead has a good heavy shot and was able to put a great wrist shot just over Tessier for the win," said head coach RICK OSBORNE. "Windsor played a physical game and earned the point against us for the overtime loss."
The Golden Hawks had beat the Lancers earlier in the year 5-0 and will play them once again in Windsor on February 1st.
The team travels back to Waterloo to host the Western Mustangs at Sun Life Arena on Sunday, January 11th at 7:30p.m.
