WATERLOO, Ont. – Renata Adamczyk (Dundas, Ont.) and Christa Mancino (Port Colborne, Ont.) each scored 21 points as the Wilfrid Laurier
Golden Hawks (5-7) defeated the Brock Badgers (6-6) 79-63 at the Athletic Complex. The home
team didn’t allow the visitors to gain a lead at any point during the game.
“The game was one of our best all-round efforts this season,” said head coach PAUL FALCO following the win. “We took care of business at both ends of the court.”
Laurier started off the second half of their regular season right by opening up a ten point lead in the early going of the first quarter. The Badgers took a timeout to settle down and caught up with the Hawks by end of the frame. Laurier continued to look to Mancino down low to generate offence in the second quarter and pulled ahead by five points going into the break. At half, the purple and gold led the Badgers 38-34.
After the break, Brock ramped up the physical play, but the Hawks persevered and outscored the visitors 19-16. The fourth quarter saw the Badgers switch to a full-court press. The Lady Hawks offence was able to beat the defensive tactic with strong passing out of their zone. Laurier’s offence continued to click in the fourth, scoring 22 points to the visitors 13.
The Hawks leadings scorers were Adamzyk and Mancino, who each
tallied 21 points, followed by Aleksa Brkic (Mississauga, Ont.) who netted 13.
Christa Mancino also picked up 11 rebounds earning her a double-double, while Renata went 10 for 14 from the floor. For the Badgers Britt Pegg (Weyburn, Sask.)
scored 12 while Devyn Cunic (Carilisle, Ont.) put down ten.
Laurier’s next game will be on Wednesday, January 14th against the Guelph Gryphons in Guelph. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
