Here’s a look into what happened this past week in Laurier Athletics:

The first game was hosted by the Golden Hawks and Laurier beat the Blues 2-1. For the second game, the Hawks traveled to Toronto where Andrea Ironside scored the game winner. The series win sends Laurier to the CIS National Championship in Ottawa. Earlier in the week the team was recognized with three of the four OUA major awards. Lauren Barch won OUA Player of the Year, head coach RICK OSBORNE received Coach of the Year and Lauren Meschino was awarded the OUA Marion Hillier award. Barch and Andrea Bevan were named as first team OUA all-stars, while Liz Knox, Meschino and Andrea Ironside were named to the second team. Katherine Shirriff was named to the all-rookie team.

In Golden Hawk men’s hockey news, Team Captain Matt Grennier signed a 25 game contract with the Toronto Marlies. This week Matt played in three straight games for the Marlies, while the team posted a 1-2 record. In the second game Grennier was a starter along with former Brampton Battalion teammate Jay Harrison.

The women’s basketball team’s Amanada McDonald was named to the OUA all-rookie team this past week. McDonald, a first year History major out of Sudbury, Ontario finished the regular season third on the Golden Hawks with 152 points.  Amanda also led the team with assists with 47 and was second in steals with 23.
