WATERLOO – The department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce that Luke Snider
has accepted the position of head coach of the Golden Hawk women’s volleyball program.
Snider takes over for Dave McIntyre, who coached for seven seasons and was part of the Laurier women’s volleyball program for ten years. McIntyre left his position at Laurier to pursue a career in real estate.
“I’m fortunate to be able to inherit a program that has a proven history of success and I intend to take the program further along that path,” commented Luke. “Having been a part of the team full-time this past year, I know the girls and their desire to win. I hope the continuity of this change will allow the team to hit the ground running this upcoming season!”
An assistant coach for the previous season, Snider is no stranger to the purple-and-gold. The power hitter competed for the Golden Hawk men’s volleyball program from 1996 to 1999. During this time he was named both an OUA Rookie of the Year (‘96/97) and OUA All-Star (‘98/99). In 2001, Snider graduated from Laurier with a BA in Kinesiology.
“Experience as a player nationally and professionally gives Luke the nod to lead our women’s volleyball program,” commented PETER BAXTER
, Director of Athletics and Recreation. “He knows the program in working with Dave this past year and his players are thrilled to have him on board.”
Between 2000 and 2002, Snider attended and played as a libero at the University of Alberta. Playing there resulted in a national championship and the title of CIS Tournament All-Star. Snider was also #1 in the CIS in total digs and digs/set.
From 2001 to 2006, Snider played as a Libero on the Canadian National Team. He gained the title of Best Libero in the NORCECA (North and Central American and Carribean) in 2003.
Snider had even more international success, playing professionally in Denmark and Austria for several years. He competed in the Champion’s League of Volleyball, and won numerous national titles.
