Night of the Stars Sensational!
The Golden Hawk Recreation Special Interest Dance Program concluded Sunday night with the end of term Dance Open House performed in front of a packed Athletic Complex gymnasium!

'Night of the Stars' was this season’s theme, and close to 250 dance class participants in 14 Dance recreation classes offered this term at the AC performed as stars in front of about 1,200 spectators! With incredible choreography, and wonderful new skills to showcase, all the dancers and instructors involved certainly gave the audience a talented and energetic display!

The night opened at 8:00 p.m. with a special performance from the Hawk Gurlz after 1,200 people filed into the gymnasium after having donated a wonderful amount of canned food items to support efforts or the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. It set the stage for non-stop performances from all the dance classes, including creative choreography in Competitive Dance, Ballet, Irish Dance, Tap Dance, Advanced Hip Hop, Intermediate Hip Hop, Video Dance, Beginner Jazz, Lyrical, another Intermediate Hip Hop, Latin Dance, Beginner Hip Hop, Advanced Jazz, another Beginner Hip Hop, and the amazing Staff Dance Finale!

In between some of the spectacular sets, Laurier’s own rendition of 'Dancing With the Stars' took place, featuring performances by Golden Hawk Men's Basketball Coach Peter Campbell with Instructor Sarah Clare, Laurier Athletic Director PETER BAXTER with Instructor Natalie Rubino, Stadium and Events Coordinator Dave Baxter with Instructor Tara Dumas, and Coordinator of Programs Gareth Cunningham with Instructor Andrea Palen. These numbers really put the instructors’ skills to the test!

The Golden Hawk Recreation Team would like to thanks everyone for coming out and being so supportive to the program, the instructors, and the class participants, as well as so generous for the donations to the Food Bank.

A huge shout out and thanks to our incredibly talented and hard-working dance instructors: Tara Dumas, Caleigh Harvey, Andrea Palen, Megan Mackrory, Natalie Rubino, Lexi Haslam, Nancy Dubois, Catherine Lanuza, and Sarah Clare! They put hours and hours above and beyond the job requirements to pull their sets and the show together.

Additional thanks to incoming Coordinator Amanda Hall who also assisted with a special presentation from Laurier Musical Theatre, and to Jennifer O’Neill, Dave Baxter, Ted Collins and the Recreation Leaders for assisting with the behind the scenes and music and announcing work.

And finally, a HUGE word of thanks and congratulations to our very amazing and wonderful Special Interest Coordinator, Student Leader Natalie Rubino! After two and half years of so much dedicated hard work, Natalie’s final Dance Open House Showcase before her graduation was a culmination of many hours of incredible work and passion. Natalie’s efforts and devotion to this program has really grown and diversified the opportunities available to the Laurier community, and her star shone bright in this fitting finale 'Night of the Stars' Dance Showcase. Congratulations Natalie!
