WATERLOO – The women’s team bounced back after last weekend’s loss to Toronto to pick up their 11th victory of the regular season with a 6-1 drubbing of the Western Mustangs at Pillars Ice in RIM Park.

“The team responded well to last weekend’s loss in Toronto with a hard week of practice,” said Head Coach RICK OSBORNE. “We played well today, it was a good way to take us into the exam break.”

Captain Laurissa Kenworthy of Newmarket, Ont. opened scoring only two-minutes into the game.

Andrea Bevan of Collingwood, Ont. scored the game-winner later in the period. The defenseman moved up to inside of the circle and let one go beating Mustang goalie Danielle Le Ber on her glove-side.

Late in the second Amy Groen picked up Western’s lone goal – beating rookie goalie Liz Knox. Knox was challenged only 11 more times through the evening stopping them all. The Hawks out-shot their opponents by 16 pucks on net.

Burlington’s Lauren Barch scored two of the additional four goals in the game – one short handed and the other on the power-play. Barch leads the team eight goals this season. The second year forward also picked up an assist for a three-point night.

The remaining two goals were scored by Andrea Ironside of Collingwood, Ont. - who also had two assists and Lauren Meschino of Toronto, Ont.

The team now breaks for exams and holidays before competing in the Theresa Humes tournament at Concordia in the beginning of January. The next league game is on the 13th of January in Guelph. The team returns to the Waterloo Recreation Complex on the 14th of January to face the University of Toronto. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. in both games.
