Laurier: 4 Brock: 0
The Laurier women’s soccer team finally had a result deserving of their effort that they have put in this year. The Hawks went into St. Catherines, after a last minute tie by the Waterloo Warriors the day before, looking for their second win of the season. The girls were fired up on the rainy Sunday and proved to Brock just how good the Laurier Hawks can be. The women came out firing and they convincingly beat the Badgers 4-0. Danielle Thompson
netted 2 goals, one from a scramble in front of the net and another from a solid shot just outside the eighteen-yard box. Mel Witzell scored the third Laurier goal as she lost her defender with a sharp turn creating room for herself to get a shot off that blew by the Badger keeper. Cathy Jackson was the third goal scorer of the day walking in and blasting a shot from twenty-five yards out into the top left corner. There was a noticeable difference in the women’s team today and head coach, BARRY MACLEAN
, attributes that to a few changes made in the lineup. “I think we played very well today and I like the changes we have made. We moved Cathy Jackson into the center of midfield and put Lori Bell
back at sweeper. It was definitely the difference today. I’m glad we finally got the result we were looking for.” The women are continually getting better and they look to carry their momentum into next Saturday’s game against Western on October 23rd, as they finish off the regular season.
