Laurier: 1 Windsor: 1
It was a rainy Friday night as the Lady Hawks faced off against the Windsor Lancers in what was an exciting soccer match. The game was back and forth for most of the first half but both keepers managed to keep the ball from the back of the net and the half ended in a 0-0 draw. The second half however, saw the Hawks jump out to a 1-0 lead as Mel Whitzell was brought down inside the penalty area, giving the Hawks a penalty shot. Without hesitation Tammy Scurr
slid it home and the Hawks looked to be on their way to another win. Unfortunately the Hawks were victims of a very skeptical call late in the game that in turn awarded the Windsor team with a penalty shot of their own. They managed to beat Dawn Boone
, the Laurier keeper, and tied the score up at 1 each. That was how the game ended which was disappointing for the Hawks as they were putting a tremendous amount of pressure on the Windsor team late in the game, and with a few more minutes the score may have been different. “We played extremely well tonight and I liked the way we played. Still, it was tough we had to loose because of a questionable call late in the game.” replied Laurier coach BARRY MACLEAN
, when asked to comment on the game. The girls will look to gear themselves up for what will be an exciting game against Waterloo on October 16th.
