Laurier: 2 Western: 2
The Laurier men’s soccer team faced off against the number one ranked Western Mustangs Friday night. The Hawks came out tight and flat, and they found themselves down 2-0 at the half. After a motivating talk from the coaches at halftime, the Hawks came out with a new attitude, as they battled back with solid tackles and creative play lead by Kenny Nutt
. Later in the game it was Kenny Nutt
who was able to work his way into the Mustangs eighteen-yard box when he was harshly fouled resulting in a penalty shot for the Hawks. Without hesitation Richie Antolcic
struck the ball into the bottom left corner giving the Hawks their first goal of the game. Minutes later the Hawks were able to get a cross in. It was headed on by Tim Labar
to a wide open Ken Cartmill
, who was all alone in front. Ken made no mistake beating the Western keeper tying the game at two. Although there were good chances for both teams, the score remained 2-2.
The Hawks coach, BARRY MACLEAN
, was disappointed in his team's performance in the first 45 minutes, but was pleased with the character that his team showed to come back and tie the game. Special mention to Ken Cartmill
for his goal and never ending effort, as well as Kenny Nutt
for a solid, overall game. The Hawks look to get some revenge against the MacMaster Marauders as they host them this Sunday at 3:00.
