WATERLOO – Hawk goalie Morgan Wielgosz
of Dorchester, Ont. picked up her first shutout after sitting out for two weeks. The Golden Hawks (19-3-1) blanked the Brock Badgers (9-8-5) 3-0 in their second last regular season game.
The starting net-minder has been off the ice as a result of a mild concussion suffered against Guelph on January 26th.
"I’m really happy for Morgan," said Head Coach RICK OSBORNE
. "She was rusty yesterday against Queen’s and was determined to get back."
Wielgosz only faced 20 shots in the game, but it was enough for her third shutout of the season. Her opponent, Angie Mallory was bombarded throughout the game for a total of 49 shots.
of Mississauga, Ont. broke her five-game point-drought with a two-goal game. She opened scoring late in the first period putting her own rebound behind Mallory and then put the third on a pass from behind the net.
Rookie Andrea Ironside
of Collingwood, Ont. netted the second of the evening and her seventh of the season on the power-play as she let a wicked shot go from just past the blue line.
"It doesn’t matter if we’re ranked one or two, if we’ve got two or three losses, there isn’t anybody we’re afraid of," said Osborne. "We’re now focused on winning the OUA semi-final down in St. Catharines."
The Hawks play their final game of the regular season next Saturday against the York Lions at the Waterloo Recreation Complex. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. The OUA final four, which the Hawks have already qualified for, take place on March 4th and 5th at Brock University.
