TORONTO - Laurissa Kenworthy led the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks to a 5-1 win over the York Lions at Betrice Ice Gardens. Kenworthy scored her second career hat-trick in the game, the last was in the 2003/04 season.

The first period saw a lack of execution from the the Hawks, with some shoddy play in the neutral zone. Several mistakes led to a break away for York's Mandy Cole, who wired a shot past Laurier netminder Morgan Wielgosz. Morgan faced 11 shots in the first period, compared to Laurier's four on York.

Laurier's Lauren Meschino started the second period off on the right foot for the Hawks with a grity goal at 1:39. The Hawk's continued to put pressure on the Lion's offensivly and were rewarded as Kate Psota fired a pass to break away Laurissa Kenworthy who beat Seanna Conway up high to give the Hawks the lead for good. Defensivly the Hawks were still having, problems keeping the Lions at bay, but Wielgosz made several diving saves to keep York from scoring. Fiona Aiston tipped in Laurier's third goal on a point shot from team captain Ashley Stephenson.

The final period belonged to Laurissa Kenworthy as she scored two goals in the first six minutes of play. Then Laurier found their grove defensivly and shut down the York offense entirely. Their strong play resulted in only three shots on net for the entire period.

"York played a good game against us," said head coach RICK OSBORNE. "They had a lot of scoring opportunites against us. Both Wielgosz and Kenworthy had outstanding individual performances and made the difference in todays game."

The Hawks will play next against the Windsor Lancers on November 19th and Western on November 20th in back to back games.
