Waterloo, ON - On Tuesday April 12th, one of Laurier Football's proud possessions, the Yates Cup, had an opportunity to spend time with another historic football trophy, also deep in tradition, the Grey Cup.
At a local Home Builders event held at RIM Park in Waterloo, the Grey Cup along with Head Coach of the Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argos, Mike 'Pinball' Clemons were in town for a speaking engagement.
Prior to the event, Pinball spent time with Laurier Football stars Jesse Alexander
(Waterloo, ON), Yannick Carter
(Pickering, ON), Andy Baechler
(Ayr, ON) and Joel Wright
(Stoney Creek, ON), as well as some of the coaching staff.
Between the two trophies there is over 200 years
of history. The Yates was first competed for in 1898, while the Grey Cup is a little younger and was first competed for in 1909.
Pinball also spent time with Laurier men's basketball coach Peter Campbell
, and football coaches RON VANMOERKERKE
and Stefan Ptaszek
, who also has had the honor of being a former teammate of Clemons' and says that "Pinball is always that genuine and happy."
Manager of Football Operations and Head Coach Gary Jeffries
and Pinball represent two of the most successful coaches in Canada at their respective levels, as Jeffries was the Ontario nominee for coach of the year in the CIS, while Clemons was a nominee for coach of the year in CFL.
Pinball is a former keynote speaker at the Laurier Friends of Football Reception and Dinner
, an annual fundraising event scheduled for Thursday April 21st at the Waterloo Inn. For further details or to purchase tickets please visit www.laurierathletics.com/corporatedinner
