Concordia’s Janie Brassard ended Cindy Eadie’s (Brantford, ON) seven game, 477-minute, 26 second shutout streak only 53-seconds into the second period.

“It’s just a streak,” said Eadie. “We’re here to put W[in]’s on the board, not add records to books. We’re facing good teams now and good teams are going to score on you.”

The game was incredibly physical with the referee calling a total of 56 minutes of penalties – 30 minutes worth against the Hawks. “The team can play at all types of games thrown at them,” said second year Head Coach RICK OSBORNE. “The team’s concentration and commitment to getting the job done was shown in their performance today.”

Laurier’s Fiona Aiston (Ottawa, ON) was given a body contact major and a game misconduct with less than four-minutes remaining in the game. According to CHA rules, Aiston is unable to play in tomorrow’s Championship game. The call was made as a result of an injury on the play, the Concordia player however was back on the ice within the next couple of line-changes.

Diana Cicchillo (Maple, ON) opened scoring for the Hawks six-minutes into the first on a shot with some traffic in front of the net. Player of the game Amanda Joseph (Oakville, ON) netted her second of the Nationals in the same period, shorthanded none the less, putting a rebound by Concordia’s Cecilia Anderson. Samantha Cully (Mississauga, ON) netted the final goal of the game, and her third of the Nationals.

Brassard scored early in the second and then again about 10-minutes in on the end of a power-play.

Laurier will Advance to the Gold Medal game for only the second time in the Nationals short seven year history. Previously the Hawks have finished second, fourth and fifth at the Nationals.
