Laurier alumni, perfect weather conditions, enthusiastic golfers, and a great group of volunteers, all lead to, yet again, a great annual Golden Hawk Alumni Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament was the 14th of its kind and turned out to be a fabulous time. This year’s competitors included, Laurier Alumni and friends, along with current varsity coaches and other members of the Laurier community. The event was held at the Rockway Golf Club in Kitchener for what was a great day.
Barry Lyon, former Golden Hawk Soccer Coach was honoured at the event. During the closing ceremonies, Lyon spoke about his time at Laurier, the athletes he worked with and the outstanding accomplishments that his teams were able to achieve. Also recognized at the tournament was Kevin Webster
for his outstanding contributions to the department over his past three seasons at Laurier.
The tournament was won this year by the foursome of Stefan Ptaszek
, Stan Ptaszek, Mike Oke
and Andrew Zylak. There was a tie for first with the score of 14 under par, a putt off was held with Ptaszek’s foursome coming out on top.
The putting contest also came down to a putt off between Pat McCann and BARRY MACLEAN
, with McCann defeating MacLean.
Closest to the pin competitions were won by the following: Mark French, Leroy Thomas, Ryan Smye, and Jay Taylor. The long drive competition was also part of the tournament with the women’s winner being Anne Weber, and the men’s winner was Alex Cully. McGinnis Front Row held a “on the green 50/50 draw” and Conrad DeBarros was the winner of that prize.
The organizing committee would like to thank all the sponsors including the support of the Laurier Alumni Association, prize donors, competitors, and volunteers, without these people the event wouldn’t have been possible.
Looking forward to next year’s tournament!!!
