Waterloo, ON – The Laurier Women’s Hockey team (7-3-1) opened up the second half of its 2003/2004 season with a shutout win over the York Lions (2-9-1). The 6-0 win was the first regular season win for new coaches RICK OSBORNE
and Brandy West-McMaster
. Amanda Joseph
(Oakville, ON) was the highlight of the night as she picked up a total of five points (two goals, three assists).
Joseph opened up the evening with the only goal of the first period. Within two-minutes, the Golden Hawks’ Jen Heslin
(Bolton, ON) and Candice Djukic
(Binbrook, ON) picked up the next two goals eight minutes into the second period. Joseph picked up her second goal of the evening only 19 seconds into the power-play. Minutes later, Lauren Meschino
(Toronto, ON) netted the last of the period. The only goal of the third was notched by the Hawks leading scorer Fiona Aiston
(Arlington, TX) picked up her first shutout as a Golden Hawk in only her second start. Cooley only faced a total of eight shots on the night while York goaltender Melanie Quinn (Newmarket, ON) was kept busy facing 44 shots over the three periods.
The win over the Lions is the second this season (3-2 win in November). The Hawks will now travel to Western to play the Mustangs (2-6-0) on January 14th. Their next home is on January 16th as they play a league interlock game against the Carleton Ravens (0-9-0). The puck is set to drop at 7 PM.
