Laurier: 1 Western: 1
On Sunday, September 29, the Laurier Golden Hawks took on the Western Mustangs on home turf. The game consisted of mostly back and forth action, with very few shots on net for the Hawks and many for the Mustangs. Luckily goalkeeper Allen Lourenco
was on his game, making many awesome saves. The game started to look brighter for the Hawks on the 36th minute when Western was called on a handball. The shot was taken by Wojciech Cwik
, and although he missed the shot, the rebound was kicked in by Jon Miller. This was called offside and the goal was called back, keeping the score 0-0.
The second half saw both teams picking up the pace and fighting hard for the ball. Tweny-minutes into the second Western's Gian-Pidro Marcantonio scored to take the Mustang's up to 1-0. The atmosphere for the rest of the game was very intense and due to additional injury time, the Hawks were given the chance for the turning point they needed. The Mustangs were called for a handball which allowed for a penalty shot only 12 yards from the goalie. The shot was taken by Jon Miller, who scored to tie up the game 1-1. The game ended in a tie that Coach BARRY MACLEAN
called "a fair result".
