Laurier: 2 Windsor: 0
On Saturday September 28th, the Laurier Golden Hawks took on the Windsor Lancers. The Laurier men looked out of touch as they took longer than usual to establish control of the match versus the struggling Lancers. However, the turning point came 42 minutes into the first half when Joel Abwunza
ripped a shot that bounced off the left goal post. Even though the shot missed the target, it seemed to fire up the squad for an energetic finish to the half. The second half was much more fruitful for the Hawks. The pace was high, but controlled. Seventeen minutes after the whistle started play, Kenny Nutt
crossed the ball into the box that Abwunza had no trouble finishing off...bringing the score to 1-0. With the Hawks looking to solidify their win, Derek Castro
took a shot from outside the box. The ball deflected off a Lancer defender into the net sending the Lancers into a 2-0 defeat. Despite the final result, according to head coach BARRY MACLEAN
"We (Laurier) had the worst performance in five years". The two-time National Champion Hawks will no doubt have to pick up their game on Sunday, September 29 as they play the always tough, Western Mustangs.
Come out and watch the Hawk men's team at 1:00pm at University Stadium.
