On the heals of Back-to-Back National Championship seasons, the Golden Hawks men’s soccer team opens camp with a goal of maintaining national prominence and defending their title.
The Men’s Soccer team will again headline the fall sports scene as they return to campus as the first ever Laurier team to enter a season as Two-time defending National Champions. All-Canadian forwards Kenny Nutt
and Wojciech Cwik
will lead a cast of returning veterans that will hope to apply their experience in maintaining their dominance on the field again this season. Joining these veterans will be a new crop of talented rookies including the likes of Nick Blicharski who joins the Hawks from Resurrection High School in Kitchener with experience as a member of Canada’s Under 17 team.
With training camp running from August 26th until September 6th and the Hawks then have exhibition matches scheduled with UQTR, Niagara University and Roberts Wesleyan University prior to their home opener on September 15th vs the UofT Varsity Blues.
On the women’s side, the Hawks have a bright outlook towards capturing a provincial and national championship in the new future. This outlook is provided by a great crop of young players that return with a year of experience under their belt. Following loses in the OUA Semi-finals in each of the last two years, Coach BARRY MACLEAN
looks for his squad to take the next step. With a similar pre-season schedule, the Hawks will open their regular season on September 15th vs the UofT Varsity Blues as well.
