French To Lead Hawks Hockey
Wilfrid Laurier University has appointed Mark French as Head Coach of the Men’s Golden Hawk Hockey Program.

French comes to Laurier from the Ontario Hockey League’s (OHL) North Bay Centennials where he served in the dual role of Assistant General Manager and Assistant Coach.

“We are extremely pleased to have a person of Mark’s quality, caliber and enthusiasm to lead our Men’s Hockey Program”, stated PETER BAXTER, Laurier’s Director of Athletics. “He is a great teacher of the game who has a track record of working with athletes in bringing their contribution level to it’s highest potential”.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Hockey Program at Laurier” French says. “I look forward to building upon the Golden Hawk tradition in Men’s Hockey and assisting in setting a future that make’s Laurier a team that will compete consistently at the national level”.

A graduate of Brock University, French played for the Badger’s Hockey team from 1991 to 1996, serving as team captain for three seasons.

During his three year tenure with North Bay, French apprenticed under the direction of Centennials Head Coach and GM, Mike Kelly, a former CIS coach at University of New Brunswick. In 1997 – 98, French served as interim Head Coach of the Brock University Badgers when current Canadian National Team Associate General Manager and Assistant Coach Mike Pelino left the post at Brock.

This past April, Mark was appointed by the hockey development center of Ontario as an Assistant Coach for Ontario’s under 17 boys team which will compete in the 2003 Canada Winter Games.
