On February 2nd,2001, Laurier Athletics recognized the players, coaches and alumni who have played and supported the Soccer program at Laurier. Since the birth of the Soccer at Laurier 1980, the program has won a total of 7 provincial titles and 4 national ones, including the back to back national championships of the men’s soccer team in 2000 and 2001. The dinner was to celebrate the past successes and current commitment Laurier Athletics has to the program.
Over 90 people turned out for the dinner, held in the Athletic Complex’s Golden Hawk Lounge and Classrooms. The event was hosted by Alumnus Scott Fraser
, who spoke quite well recognizing the years and people in attendance. Other speakers through the event included; Arthur Stephen (VP: University Advancement), Barry MacLean
(Men’s and Women’s Soccer Head Coach), PETER BAXTER
(Director of Athletics and Recreation), Braden Douglas
(Captain Men’s Soccer Team 2001) and the person who helped to start it all, Horace Braden. The evening tickets and silent auction helped to raise approximately $3,500 for the Soccer program (Men’s and Women’s) at Wilfrid Laurier University.
The Soccer program would like to thank everyone who supported the event and hopes to see the attendance and support of programs like these, increase.
