Football Corporate Dinner raises $60,000
Four-time Grey Cup Champion Damon Allen delivers keynote address

WATERLOO, Ont. (April 26, 2013) - On Thursday night, the Wilfrid Laurier Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted the 14th annual Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner presented by Sun Life Financial at the Waterloo Inn.

The event raised $60,000 which will directly benefit the Laurier Golden Hawks football program.

Damon Allen, a four-time Grey Cup Champion and three-time Grey Cup MVP, highlighted the evening as the Keynote Speaker. Widely considered to be one of the greatest Canadian Football League (CFL), Allen is a former record holder of the all-time passing yards mark in professional football as he finished his career with 72,381 yards for his career. He is only one of four players to ever surpass the 70,000 yard mark in his career.

Thursday's dinner also saw new Manager of Football Operations and Head Coach Michael Faulds deliver one of his public addresses in which he discussed the state of the Golden Hawks football program heading into the 2013 season. The topics of Faulds' speech included an updated look at the coaching staff, a run through of the recently completed Spring Camp as well as n examination of the roster heading into his first season at the helm of the football program.

The Friends of Golden Hawk Football Reception and Dinner is a fundraising initiative of the Laurier Golden Hawk Football program. To date, the event has raised over $800,000 for the Golden Hawk football program. The funds are directed into enhancements and support, such as equipment, academic assistance, coaching support and facilities.

The event will be replayed on RogersTV Waterloo Region (Cable 20) on Sunday, April 28 at 6 p.m., Friday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 4 at 1 p.m.

Laurier will open their 2013 football season at the earliest date in team history when they travel to Guelph to take on last years Yates Cup finalists, the Gryphons on Sunday, August 25. The Golden Hawks will then play their home opener on Monday, September 2 against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
